Survival Tip: Use Your Car As A Generator

When the power goes out, your need for power doesn't. You can probably go without TV for a while. And you (should) have 100 hour candles on hand to light your way.

However, there is still the need to run electronics and charge batteries (computers or cell phones).

An inverter is nothing more than a black box that takes DC voltage (like a car battery) and turns it into AC voltage (like a wall plug in). So with a simple portable inverter you can run some of your home appliances on your car battery.

Hook up the inverter to your car battery, and then you’ll be able to run most power tools and even charge various items like cell phones, computers, etc. It's best if your car is idling while you are using it, but it's not required.

In cases where maximum stealth is required, your car doesn’t even need to be running, but you shouldn’t use it like this too long or you can kill the battery.

To find these inverters go to Amazon.com and search for: "Portable Auto Inverter"

My favorite portable car inverter:
"Tripp Lite PV375 Portable Auto Inverter 375W 12V DC to AC 120V 5-15R 2 Outlet"

(you can also use the cigarette lighter plug with this model)
